We have had quite a few applications of late where assessment to the full text of Amendment 2 of AS/NZS 60335.1:2011 has not been provided. Amendment 2 is predominately an adoption with very minor national deviations of Amendment 1 of IEC 60335.1:2010 and from 28th November 2016 has been required for certification of most household electrical appliances under both the EESS (RECS) and NSW (REAS) schemes.
The full amendment contains changes to clauses 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29 in addition to figures and annexes. The amendment is quite extensive and some of the clauses updated concern test methods used by the laboratory.
We have received several test reports stating a product complies with Amendment 2 of AS/NZS 60335.1:2011 which have covered only the local deviations of the amendment. This could be due in part to how Australian/New Zealand standards are published both with and without the IEC text; it should be noted that the complete Amendment 2 is 25 pages long, not 4 pages.
In light of this, the following information may be useful for your applications:
• For new testing please request the laboratory to cover IEC 60335.1:2010 including A1:2013 (otherwise known as edition 5.1), with AS/NZS deviations.
• If a pre-existing report is being updated, the full text of Amendment 2 must be covered, not just the AS/NZS deviations.
• Test reports to IEC 60335.1:2010 without Amendment 1 can no longer be used in Australia/New Zealand.
